Early Modern Material Networks

Early Modern Material Networks is a mapping and data visualisation project, which seeks to illustrate networks of artefacts found on site by tracing their material journeys from source, through manufacture, transportation, trade, use and final deposition at Minories.

The aim of this project is to produce a digital interactive map, which not only visualizes the scope of these material networks in relation to our site in East London but will also be available as a research tool for considering the wider themes relating to these material connections.

The nature of this project attempts to draw the archaeologist’s focus from local features and immediate interpretations towards placing ‘the site’ into a more global context, whilst still at the point of excavation.
